No Lead Is Safe

After watching the Warriors pull off a 22-point comeback against the Clippers and then upset the Lakers in an MLK Day showdown1 between @StephenCurry30 and @KingJames, and after working through a whole bunch of hassles to build the original Hugo-powered version of this blog (now rebuilt with Astro), I finally have my first post here.

I had already thought about jotting down Steph’s quote after the Warriors’ vintage comeback against the Clippers on Jan. 8, 2021:

“You try to just continue to stay humble and stay in the moment. That’s the best way to approach it.”

Interestingly, the quote is only now making its way into this post, after I procrastinated until a second epic masterpiece against the other LA squad. It means a lot to me as a Curry fan from many angles:

  • a never-quit mindset (no lead is safe when the other team is led by Steph)
  • team collaboration is key (Steph is selfless, and no game can be won without his teammates’ help)
  • big comebacks and wins are great, but stay humble and move on (I view humility as central to Steph’s personal brand: he credits the team, stays grounded, and moves on to the next game)

So somehow, the impulse to start this blog comes from the underdog Warriors’ great battles, led by the underdog legend Steph. I’m still at an early stage in my career, but I feel motivated to do something meaningful. Maybe that means just keeping my own notes about tech and other thoughts, or even inspiring someone else through my experience. Whatever purpose it serves, it has to start someday and grow day by day. Maybe this is the right day, because it showed me that the Warriors and Steph managed to pull off those upsets through cumulative effort rather than with a single shot.

Just before publishing this post, I got a feature request from my wife. When I announced to my family that I was writing my first post, she responded, “I can mark the first Like on your blog.” At this point, liking a post is unfortunately not enabled, but luckily, it seems I have some extra motivation to get my blog rolling.
